I’m Andrew Walsh. Addenbrooke’s technology saved my life, and I’m taking on two major challenges in 2026 to help support the hospital’s future.
The scan that changed everything
After a car crash damaged my neck, I was put through a scanner. That scan revealed a 27 mm growth in my thyroid. I now have half a thyroid, but I’m alive — and I know how fortunate I am that the technology and expertise were there when I needed them.
Addenbrooke’s saved my life. Its care, research and technology save many other lives too.
Why I’m fundraising
When I learned about the plans for new cancer research and children’s hospitals, I felt I had to do everything I could to help. I want other patients and families to benefit from the same extraordinary care that I received.
When they said they needed support for a cancer research hospital and a children’s hospital, I thought: I’ve got to try my hardest.

My 2026 challenge
Great Wall of China
Completed. In May 2026 I joined Team Addenbrooke’s to trek a remote section of the Great Wall of China. For five days I walked for up to seven hours a day through steep, wild terrain.
Coast to Coast
Next challenge: 30 July–5 August 2026. I will walk approximately 192 miles from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay in seven consecutive marathon-distance stages.
